bio
Sharon Karst graduated from the Alberta college of Art and design, recieiving her Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 1999. Since that time she has devoted her full attention to creating her art work. Her work is shown throughout the province and beyond. Sharon teaches painting and drawing classes as well as doing figurative painting workshops and is an active member of The Alberta Society of Artists.
From the point of first becoming an artist, Sharon has focused on painting the human form. She is fascinated with figurative art work. Her aim is to capture the essence of who we are and what is important to us through observations of some of what we enjoy and deeply relate to – such as music and dance.
Her greatest source of imagery has come from the very talented dancers of Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and many local musicians. Her exploration of the inspirational connection between the visual and performing arts has led her to the studios and stages of dance and the dark clubs around town such as the Beat Niq and now defunct King Eddy to catch performers in action. Keeping alive those fluid movements, the sounds and the atmoshpere – the sensual celebration of life in those performances inspires her art work.
Sharon currently lives and paints in the countryside surrounding Okotoks, Alberta just south of Calgary.
